A Prayer for the Election

Election Day PrayerAlmighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives, especially for President.

We pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide all voters to make godly and gracious choices they make in national leadership.

We pray for the people of this nation, and globally, in relief of anxiety over the results of the elections, and patience in the election process.

Give divine protection for all involved in the administration of the election. Guard and guide all election officials in each state, county, and community as they fulfill their duties. Prevent any interference by domestic and foreign powers from interfering in any part of the election process.

Unite this nation once the election and show the path forward to care for every citizen, and who desire to become a part of our national fabric. By faithful administration and wise laws, that the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for National Peace

National PeaceAlmighty God, Ruler of all nations and Source of all concord: we pray for the United States, its leaders, protectors, and all involved in the process of the selection and election of those in earthly authority.

We pray for the American political process, now beset with mistrust, discord, and violence. We give thanks for the preservation of the life of presidential candidate Donald Trump. We beseech your mercy for the security of our president, Joe Biden. Guard them, and all candidates for national, state, and local offices.

Deliver us from the evil and violence arising from our national divisions. Give courage to all who contend with impulse and anger. Provide people of influence to calm angry political rhetoric. Bring peace to the national conventions of the Republican Party in Milwaukee and the Democratic Party in Chicago. Strengthen the hands and minds of local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel to maintain calm in each city.

Finally, we give thanks for all who put their lives on the line to protect others when political events turn violent. We pray especially for the repose of the soul of Corey Comperatore, who laid down his life to protect his wife and children from harm in the attempted Trump assassination. May his soul, and the souls of all faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
